Kalaatin Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Named after the village of Kalaata, Central Kyzylkum. I.M. Abdurazimova, E.M. Shvets, 1987 (27, p.55). Stratotype 3 km southwest of the village of Kalaata at the western end of the Kuldjuktau Mountains.
Synonym: Kalaatin Suite, Калаатинская св., Kalayta (in McCann), Kalaat Formation
Lithology and Thickness
Marine dark and greenish-gray clays with interlayers of sandstones. Thickness 20-60m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Overlies transgressively on the Paleozoic and Tuzkoy Fm
Upper contact
Overlain with erosion by the Dzhamanyar Fm (Jamanyar suite).
Regional extent
Central Kyzylkum, foothills of the Kuldjuktau and Auminzatau, on plains, exposed by drilling. Analog of the Middle Asian Fm sub-suite of the Zirabulak-Ziaetdin Mountains and the Lower Charshangin Fm sub-suite (of the south of the Gissar Range) (25; 28).

Contains ammonites - Hypacanthoplites ex gr. jacobi Col.; marine bivalve mollusks - Nucula pectinata sultanuisica Vinok., Amphidonte arduennensis zeravschanica (Muzaph.), Linotrigonia gissarensis Vinok., Pterotrigonia aliformis Park.; foraminifers - Evolutinella formosa (Suleim.), Trochammina dampelae Dain, Verneuilina vinokurovae Zhuk., Gaudryinella albica Aleks.; spores and pollen, % - Appendicisporites matesovae (Bolch.) Norris (0-1), Clavifera foveolata Shv. (0-2), C. triplex Bolch. (0-2), Gleicheniidites senonicus Ross. (8-52), G. carinatus Bolch. (0-7), Inaperturopollenites Dubius (Pot. et Venitz) Th. et Pf. (4-80) and others.
